Apache OpenOffice 4.0.0 for PC/OS and OS/4 released

Today we are releasing the Apache OpenOffice 4.0 package for OS/4 OpenLinux users and PC/OS Workstation customers.  This has also been tested on Ubuntu 12.x/13.x and Linux Mint 15.

Why OpenOffice vs LibreOffice?  IBM Lotus Symphony was merged with Apache and so if you are like me and were a huge Lotus Symphony lover, Apache will appeal to you.  Stability, I have found Apache to have better interoperability with exterior formats than LibreOffice.  Apache OpenOffice also falls into the prolonged release cycle.  While some people want latest and greatest, its been our experience that academic institutions, enterprise customers and government agencies want that prolonged release cycle and dont want to have to download new versions every few months.

You can download the packages from our Sourceforge page under the Apache OpenOffice folder.

Apache is also available with the Desktop Expansion Kit, which contains a plethora of other software.
